Over the past year we have received the following feedback from participants which was offered to help inform people considering taking the 4 Seasons of Indigenous Learning Course.
There is no better way to learn about Indigenous peoples, cultures, and history than directly from Indigenous voices. This was the most authentic, honest, and helpful learning I have had the opportunity to participate in. I can’t wait to do the next season of learning!
This learning is critical for anyone in any field. If you truly care about moving towards a place of authentic connection, equity, and respect for Indigenous peoples, start with this course.
This program was extremely beneficial and enhanced my learning. The resources were excellent and provided additional learning. My knowledge has increased and I have encouraged others to take this program. In fact, everybody should have to take this program. Thank you so much for an excellent learning experience!
I really appreciated the decolonized approach to learning. The pace was exceptional with ample time for knowledge-learning and reflection. The videos allowed us a rare glimpse into a world we are just beginning to learn about. I am humbled by the generosity in sharing these teachings with us.
I’ve enjoyed the ability to take the courses at my own pace, which fits with a busy work/life schedule. The content is informative and enriching. I have loved the monthly presenter talks – which are inspiring, encouraging and full of wisdom and knowledge. The links to additional materials and the items available at the store are great. I’ve happily been taking advantage of both. Thrilled to support this group and its programs!
I have truly enjoyed the 4 Seasons courses! I took the first one last year and have just signed up for the one in October. I cannot wait to learn more and hear from amazing Elders and Knowledge Keepers! Thank you for allowing me to learn alongside all of you. Such an honour!!
The definitions and explanations of terms was so helpful. I am an Indigenous woman but didn’t grow up on or near our reservation or connected to the culture because my grandparents attended Indian Boarding Schools. All the information you provided was so helpful, even if some was review for me. I wish all school districts could partake in these sessions to understand the importance of Indian education in public K-12 districts. I love that you included resources like the National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition, as we took my great uncle to be interviewed by them this past summer. Great resources in all the sessions so far!
I like the self-paced learning environment, but the addition of monthly gatherings where we can hear from leaders and educators is very helpful in learning more about them, their backgrounds, journeys, and how we can be allies.
I would absolutely recommend this course. As a white woman, it was crucial to my development and understanding of true, supportive allyship. I would also emphasize that this training is a starting point, the real work is in the everyday and the training equips you with the tools to start living out being an ally and honoring Indigenous peoples.
This class has helped deepen my knowledge and understanding of the indigenous communities around me. It is so important in the world we live in to show respect and compassion to each other, and that all begins with lessons like this one.
This is hands down the best learning experience I've ever had. I loved that the learning modules included videos, text, links to more resources, art, and photography to help build a diverse, enriching learning experience.
This is a course that everyone who lives in the Americas should take. This is all of our history and we need to be well-informed and proactive in the work that still needs to be done.
This reconciliation learning benefited me by learning about Canada and the experiences in that territory. In the residential schools module map I found the Hoopa Boarding School that my mom and her siblings went to.
I would highly recommend Outdoor Learning’s 4 Seasons educational/learning series because it provides a safe place to learn indigenous ways/knowledge and tangible ways to be accountable and conscious of how we can heal ourselves and other’s in our relationships with community/nature.
The 4 Seasons of Indigenous Learning course has been really eye-opening. It lays a great foundation for becoming more aware and appreciative of Indigenous cultures in North America.
Hearing people’s stories, thoughts, and experiences from their own mouths and in their own words is invaluable to understanding, growing, and building knowledge, compassion, know-how, and practice in one’s self.
There were points that were brought up that would help all children in education (teaching to the entire child). I also think educators are genially concerned that students don’t value the Earth like they should and this course would be beneficial and eye opening to everyone.
I think the history presented is incredibly valuable in understanding where we are now and how we got there.
This course taught me some basics about Indigenous culture and experiences in the US and Canada that I am ashamed that, in my 42 years of life, I didn’t already know. It was very valuable and the instructors were super understanding regarding where a non-Indigenous person might be coming from.
This series was a great way to learn history and how the current actions are affecting Indigenous people.
I have always been fascinated with Indigenous cultures and this learning is exactly what i was looking for to further my education.
Participating in this learning experience provided me with a base for Indigenous knowledge. There were different resources and platforms used that encouraged my learning and engaged me throughout the experience. I was most grateful to hear from the guest speakers and hear about their personal stories and actions their taking to advocate for Indigenous peoples.
This is a great module to build on an understanding of the importance of Indigenous cultures and education that is vital for survival of culture. Although I am not a part of a tribe or identify as Indigenous, I think everyone in the US and Canada as adults who have not been in our recent educational system with the new laws passed to take this module to better educate themselves.
Considering learning this important part of our history, it’s important that we better understand our own and others pasts to make us better people today.
This is professional learning series was actually educational and something you can incorporate into your classroom.
This course gave me insight into tangible/action-oriented ways I can be a better ally and partner with Indigenous Nations personally and professionally.
I believe that it is our responsibility to learn about the Indigenous history of our land and the people who came before us. Through 4 Seasons of Indigenous Learning I was able to learn so much truth of the history before us.
This course helped me see beyond my experiences and bring honor to others. It’s very helpful when trying to respect different cultures of my students.
A personal journey to explore misconceptions and basic understanding of the Indigenous cultures.
Open your mind to the learnings and perspectives in this course. The history and information will probably be new and may contradict what you have learned but it is true and requires our attention.
This course is an opportunity to slow down and develop a deeper understanding of your relationship with the indigenous people of your land.
It is a lot to take in, do your best to sit and reflect, then pick just a few action items you’d like to tackle moving forward so you don’t become too overwhelmed.
I feel it is immensely important that people, indigenous and not, know this history. Unfortunately, in the US, what little authentic history about indigenous people taught in schools is now being removed, so it is incumbent upon everyone to educate themselves and share this knowledge.
If you are someone who feels connected to nature, know that your connection can expand considerably by hearing the stories and wisdom from Indigenous people across North America. By doing this, you will feel enlightened and encouraged to develop a reciprocal relationship with nature that will bring you endless wonder, awe and joy, and there is no better teacher than Indigenous teachers.
Participating in the 4 Seasons of Indigenous Learning Season 1 has been an honour, and I look forward to Season 2. The presenters were generous and welcoming to all of us joining over the year. This is a small step on my part to try to move forward in my journey of learning and reconciliation. I am incredibly grateful to the presenters and the Outdoor Learning School & Store for providing this platform. Having access to the recordings and shared resources has allowed me to continue my journey from home and share this critical learning with others as we all embrace these truths and seek a hopeful and restorative future together.
I would recommend this course based on the amount of knowledge and wisdom shared within it's content. The various topics held my attention and left me wanting more!
Take your time, do not rush. Many of the concepts the speakers and lessons highlight will make you think about the messages and what they mean to you/how they apply in your life— both just after the lesson and over the next week, month, etc
This course uses indigenous practices to teach hard truths and challenge the learners to explore their own beliefs and prejudices and to take action. There is such a broad sampling of traditions and knowledge from across Turtle Island.
These seasons of learning have been a lifeline for me in my professional working life and personal healing journey as an indigenous person. Thank you for making this accessible and so full of amazing learnings. I have developed Land-Based programming over the years and these learnings have further enriched my understanding to share with community.
Taking this course has helped me, as a descendant, better understand issues affecting indigenous populations and our histories on both sides of the US/Canada border. I would encourage anyone curious to go ahead and join in the learning, the knowledge is priceless, and will help me going forward with new insights of the past, to work towards a healthier future!
This is an amazing learning opportunity! The knowledge that is shared with the learner is well presented, thought out and allows you to move through at your own pace which is helpful in this busy world.
This is an important part of 21st century reconciliation. The emerging climate crisis and devastation of the lands can only be mitigated by a greater appreciation for the habitat that these communities honor and respect. The Indigenous approach to living in harmony with nature should be a model for the future as the only path to sustainability.
This lesson was a great summary of the story of colonization in the U.S. and Canada. Highlighting the most important moments, and how change has been happening and needs to continue to happen. Also there are many additional resources provided for further learning.
This course provides an invaluable foundational understanding of the historical and contemporary realities of Turtle Island's Indigenous nations. It leaves you with a profound sense of responsibility to continue learning and actively supporting your local Indigenous communities. It's truly beneficial for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding and contribute to reconciliation.
As a Native person, I am familiar with the content of these lessons, but I found myself reflecting on things in a new and interesting way. These lessons where a great way for me to open conversations with other teachers that where also taking the lessons at the same time as me.
The Foundations of Knowledge is a great course to take to get to know some of the history that contributes to Indigenous people's stories of today as well as action items we can all take towards reconciliation.
This is a beautiful course of learning for anyone who cares about the Earth. We non-indigenous people have much to learn about stewardship and connection to our Earth.
This professional learning experience is worth every penny and every minute utilized. I believe every person will walk away with a different amount of new learning, validation of previous learning, and new resources to further explore.
I was not sure what to expect when I registered for this class, and I was thoroughly impressed with the content and especially the reflection portion of each lesson.
Beyond the knowledge directly provided by the course and speakers, the materials included a wealth of links for additional research.
I have learned so much and now have a better understanding of our history. It makes so much sense as to my upbringing and why my mother was the way she was and is now. It's heartbreaking, my only wish is for her to heal from all the trauma and for myself as well with intergenerational trauma.
This learning is life long and is a commitment to bettering ourselves as humans, educators and community members. This learning is essential to respect, reciprocity and reconciliation with the land, Indigenous people, and our own ancestors. This course is supportive to that learning and shifting the lens to the land.
This course is a eye-opener into a world of honor and respect, and really makes you think about yourself and how you can really help in the goal of Reconciliation and Native Narrative Change. This course opens up the past to better help one understand their role in unity between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Peoples.
After taking the Foundations of Knowledge course I now start to see changes in the ways I interact with the world. It provides with the groundwork to continue the process of decolonization and reconciliation. It also provides with the tools, base knowledge and wisdom from the teachings of indigenous people.
As a non-Indigenous preschool teacher, I feel like this learning was beneficial to strengthening my understanding of Indigenous history and the ongoing impacts of colonialism. I have gained valuable insight that will help me continually evolve and improve both my teaching practice and my individual social activism.
Year 1 provides a compassionate, truthful and thoughtful combination of presenters, guest speakers, text, images, videos, and journaling that are allowing me deeper understanding of reconciliation, grounded in feeling. I will apply to register for Year 2 and continue to thoughtfully and compassionately engage with family, friends, and extended community for reconciliation, including recommending this learning.
Knowledge is power. Take every opportunity presented.
Take it! You won't regret it.
This learning opportunity provides an introduction to Indigenous perspectives in the USA and Canada. The live presentations are an excellent opportunity to understand individual perspectives and stories and to feel included in this learning community.
It is important to listen and learn from those who hold intergenerational knowledge and trauma. This course is one brick in a foundation of anti-racism.
If you're considering taking this training - do it! You will be rewarded with great presenters, insightful information and resources to get you thinking, and new momentum in this life-long journey of connecting with and learning about indigenous history and culture in a respectful way.
This learning was welcoming, positive, and hopeful while also acknowledging the serious challenges of this process. I appreciate the creativity and practical nature of the resources provided - I feel supported and inspired to dive deeper into this movement's work.
As a non-indigenous guest, this course both inspires and humbles my understanding of how to be in right relation. I feel more equipped to have reflected on the areas that I need to engage in more when reflecting on my responsibility as a guest on these lands.
This should be mandatory for all people living in the United States. It was an engaging learning experience.
As the saying goes, "just do it". There is always something to learn and always ways to be more connected to our friends and colleagues. This course is beautifully produced and accessible to anyone, no matter where they are on their learning journey.
This learning experience provides a solid basis of understanding of indigenous issues and considerations. It highlights that indigenous cultures are alive and striving to reengage their cultures that were systematically subjected to attempted cultural genocide. In spite of such efforts the spirit of these peoples is resilient.
This learning opportunity provides an introduction to Indigenous perspectives in the USA and Canada. The live presentations are an excellent opportunity to understand individual perspectives and stories and to feel included in this learning community.
If you are wanting a place to start, a place to begin to educate yourself and reflect on perspective, this course is a wonderful place to begin.
The Foundations of Knowledge learning was an eye opening experience. I knew of the atrocities committed against Indigenous Nations in the US and Canada but did not know that there is still so much work to be done towards reconciliation. I plan to continue obtaining knowledge in this regard with the intent of becoming an advocate for change.
I'm so glad I had the opportunity to take Season One of the Four Seasons of Indigenous Knowledge course! It was a phenomenal experience learning from Indigenous and First Nations speakers and I can't wait to take Season Two!
Don’t go too fast. Take the time to really think about what you hear here. Make time to be on the land.
The amount of information packed into these rather short lessons is astounding. Take full advantage of the additional resources shared throughout the lessons.
The 4 Seasons of Indigenous Learning provided a great resource for me to gain deeper knowledge of Indigenous culture and how to interact positively. I enjoyed learning, growing and acknowledging deficits in my own knowledge.
This learning experience was enlightening and incredibly valuable in contributing to my personal understanding of the importance of truth and reconciliation. I appreciated every presentation and perspective that was generously shared and I valued the detailed learning modules. The ability to watch the presentations and complete the learning modules at my own time and pace also made it easy to incorporate into my work schedule.
This learning has opened my heart. Sometimes there was sadness and grief as I realized the truth that had been covered up and denied. But also joy, encouragement, and gratitude for all that I have learned. This class will truly inspire you to deepen your wisdom and connection with the earth. After all, that is why we are here, isn't it.
I especially appreciated the sequence the modules and recordings presented, guiding us through historic truth, the meaning behind past and present treaties, the indigenous people of today, and reconciliation -- all while considering the impact we can have on helping support and preserve the indigenous culture of Turtle Island.
this class to be an incredible resource and access point for learning about Indigenous history and decolonizing education.
Excellent introduction to learning about common topics related to Native history and Native peoples. Provides a foundation from which you can engage more deeply on topics that intersect with everyday life (like wondering how to support Native artists, understanding social movements you may have seen already, and guidelines for attending Native events like pow wows).
The 4 Seasons of Indigenous Learning/Foundations of Knowledge experience created a base knowledge that I will share with others taking the course. The supplemental presentations and resources provided additional learnings that round out the entire experience.
This was an approachable beginning to the conversations we need to be having around indigenous peoples and their lands. I was clear and thoughtful and everyone can be if it from these important teachings.
In her presentation, Sasha Eugene said, "They have just been able to perfect the way that they try to rid our lands of our people." To stop this harm, it's up to all of us to perfect how we practice reconciliation and work together to build a better future. This learning provides essential resources to implement change.
It is important to expand your knowledge and this learning experience did that for me. I feel more comfortable discussing the history of indigenous people and learned valuable lessons.
Do it! This is an invaluable resource and space. Should be required for all non-indigenous-to-Turtle-Island humans living in the U.S. and Canada.
This was an approachable beginning to the conversations we need to be having around indigenous peoples and their lands. I was clear and thoughtful and everyone can be if it from these important teachings.
By taking the time to learn about the indigenous history of the north american continent, you will come to have a greater understanding of yourself and the ways we must move forward today. Let these lessons be a source of hope - to light the flame of reconciliation inside all of us.
This is a transformative opportunity to move beyond acknowledgment and into meaningful action. You’ll leave with not only a deeper understanding of Indigenous truths but also tangible ways to apply what you’ve learned, grounded in respect, relationship, and continued learning.
This is important material. All the things we could have learned in school but didn't. The lessons learned are well worth the time it takes to go through the modules.
The Foundations of Knowledge lessons provided exactly that - a broad introductory understanding of Indigenous culture, history and perspectives. This course opened my eyes to historical and current policies and practices that I was not aware of.
This is a wonderful overview of the learning you may have forgotten, or never got, as a younger student. As an adult, you will be able to put many of these lessons in context to so many issues facing our society.
The information presented was very valuable, and it was presented in a manner that was easy to follow. It was also a good mix of reading, online additional resources, and video resources.
This course shared valuable information that is not normally shared elsewhere in digestible chunks. The speakers throughout the program were especially powerful and it was great to hear Indigenous voices directly!
Engaging in this opportunity has opened my eyes, ears and heart to many elements of Native culture...the stories, values, arts, perspectives....I have been deeply impacted and am intentionally carrying this new learning forward. An amazing opportunity to learn from Indigenous presenters and engage in opportunities for reflection of one's own values and how we are living on our values from day to day.
This is a wonderful introductory class that provides students with a foundation of essential learning about indigenous people of Turtle Island (North America), including connections to the land, one another and other beings, ways in which they have been and are harmed by colonialism and exclusive systemic practices, and inspiring actions they and others are taking to heal, reconcile, and help humans and ecosystems thrive both now and into the future.
Committing time each month to this learning has helped our teaching team immensely as we make our way on this journey together.
Understanding the history and context of colonialism and the sustained historical and present attacks on Indigenous sovereignty is important for educators to be knowledgeable about. This course gives a wonderful overview of the history of the lands currently labeled the United States and Canada that every citizen should know.
At first I thought that taking a course from September to May would be too spread out and that I would get lost in the timing. The was not the case, I see now that the indigenous way is to SLOW down, the goal is in the journey itself not the destination. Season One was all that I needed, I went at my own pace and did not feel rushed. The monthly speakers were inspiring and helped to put color into the patterns that the lessons laid out. I am looking forward to the next seasons.
This course is a heart-felt and human approach to indigenous history, distant and recent, correcting and clarifying the truth of the people who lived it.
This course didn’t just teach me—it transformed me. If you’re longing for a deeper connection to nature, to leadership, and to your own path, this journey is truly life-shifting. If you are open, and dare to listen. More than a course, it’s a rite of passage into embodied wisdom, deeply relevant to the world we should be trying to build. This course helped me bridge ancient Sámi wisdom with modern corporate leadership—deepening my role as a wilderness guide, entrepreneur, and cultural bridgebuilder.
The work at your own pace style was very approachable and the online user interface is easy to navigate and does a great job of presenting lots of information in a variation of ways to fit different learning styles.
The lessons contained in these modules will help you in your process of restoring right-relations with those indigenous communities who call where you live their ancestral home.
When undertaking this learning, be open to actively reflecting on what was presented and how that impacts (or doesn't currently impact) your life, thought processes, etc. This course is what you make it, so engage with it fully!
This course was incredibly helpful to me as I begin my journey into understanding the history and current circumstances of Indigenous People. Not only did I learn about history, but I have come away with actionable ideas for becoming a better ally.
What you are given from this course is directly relational to the effort and time that you put into it. It is easy to watch the videos and advance through the course material, but actually taking time to engage in your own words through your own notes, further exploration, conversations with colleagues as a cohort all taking the course is what will prove to be transformational.
This was beautifully set up and I can’t think of anyway to make it better. Chi-migwetch
This is an important lesson for anyone! A great opportunity to reflect and learn something new, regardless of what your current understanding of indigenous history is.
This is definitely not your standard state-sponsored educational experience. Get ready for a slower and more human mode of learning, and lots of great information.
Season 2 was very much focused on learning from and being inspired by the land. The coursework guided me, and many others, on a journey to deepen the connection I have with the land, and in many ways to reconnect. By offering tangible exercises that encouraged me to think and reflect this course has given me a new way to reciprocate what I often receive from the land. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who is considering.
I recognize more how we are all related on Turtle Island; while each Nation has its own culture and heritage; as indigenous peoples we share a world view of harmony with Creator and relationship with land and creation. The teachings demonstrate these important histories and give hope for the future generations
I loved that the content of the modules where clear, concise, thorough and time manageable (i.e. most videos are under 5-minutes; yet so much content & messages conveyed with so few words spoken)
4 Seasons of Learning is a wonderful community of learners who truly care about the important work of justice for Indigenous Peoples in Canada. My learnings have been a helpful part of my own journey in support of Truth and Reconciliation.
This course will open your eyes to things you haven’t even considered, about how colonialism has shaped our thinking. It will make you reflect on how we can summon our ancestors to make a better world for our children.
The only way we can grow as individuals and as community is by learning from each other. This course offers an opportunity to do just that!
I believe these lessons are crafted with care and intention in a way that speaks to everyone, offering a sense of direction and grounding in a time of cultural upheaval. The individuals you "meet" through the Zoom series are true changemakers—people who lead lives rooted in connection to the Earth and to community. Their work and presence invite both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people into meaningful dialogue and shared responsibility.
For me, this course has provided a path forward—affirming the belief that living in right relationship with the Natural World is, and always has been, a foundation for a meaningful life. It has also shifted my perspective: I now approach my thinking with a greater awareness of the immense contributions and sacrifices of Indigenous Peoples, both past and present, who continue to generously share their wisdom. I carry that learning with a sense of responsibility, knowing that it’s my role to pass it forward to the next generation.
I'm sure you will walk away from this course with sincere gratitude and enthusiasm for jumping into the next Season of learning, as have I!
If you are considering taking this course...DO IT! There is so much knowledge and some great take aways with what is being taught. Also some stuff we may not even think of going on out there.
Powerful, complicated, insightful learning that challenged some of my unknown biases and helped me to better understand the experience of the native peoples of my country. I highly recommend taking this class. I learned so much and have many questions and thoughts that I will continue to explore moving forward.
Season 3 provides valuable insight into the many ways we can weave Indigenous Ways of Knowing into our teaching and daily lives including the protocols necessary to be respectful of this knowledge.
Definitely recommend participating in the 4 Seasons of learning. So much heart and authenticity put into the sharing and teaching and the guest speakers and resources are invaluable. Chi Miigwech.
Come into the learning with an open mind, even if you already have extensive knowledge about the topics, because you will earn something new. I also think that making sure to really process and write down your thoughts will be helpful.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to learn - this course was excellent and I've told my colleagues about it and shared new learning with them.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom and for the thorough, thoughtful storytelling of Turtle Island. I'm grateful for this course and I signed up for Season 2. The course's monthly videos paired with the modules and journaling help to synthesize the content discussed.
All teachers should be taking these courses. What an impact we could ALL do together. Highly recommend these courses.
As an Indigenous person, this experience gave me the opportunity to learn about other Indigenous communities beyond my own. It deepened my understanding of shared histories and unique cultural practices across different nations. I especially valued the respectful approach to land acknowledgements and the thoughtful reflection built into the self-paced format.
These wonderful and inspiring presenters provide many practical, concrete, and thoughtful suggestions that allow the learner to immediately begin respectfully and mindfully incorporating Indigenous teachings and learnings into their practice. It’s just what educators need on their path to decolonization and reconciliation.

Let yourself flow in your learning here. Open your heart and take everything in. Connect with the learning and watch for unexpected surprises along the way. Show gratitude for those who have prepared this learning for us by sharing your new knowledge in ripples around you. This will change your life!
This was a life-changing course that offered rich and meaningful content focused on the history, current efforts, and future of Truth and Reconciliation. Each webinar was unique, shaped by the lived experiences and perspectives of the Indigenous presenters. The course structure—with its flexible schedule, recorded sessions, and self-paced digital curriculum—provided the space and adaptability I needed to fully engage with the material.
I truly enjoy the year long learning and the time to reflect in between sessions. Participating live is the best way to follow the course, but if you can't attend the live session, the option to view the recording is a bonus. With every season my knowledge grows and I feel more comfortable participating in First Nation community events and other learning opportunities.
Thank you again for the opportunity to learn and for creating a safe, supportive space. There were moments of both sadness and joy, learning about hard truths but also seeing the beauty of Indigenous culture and perspectives.
Though I was already familiar with a number of these foundational topics from my own interest and reading, I still gained more knowledge by listening to Indigenous individuals speak about their lives and issues dear to them. This course is a strong primer for anyone truly invested in understanding the foundations of truth and reconciliation.
Highly recommend! It is important to expand your knowledge of the world and understand the history of others, especially if you benefit from their land. Easy to use formatting, fantastic lessons and thoughtful reflection questions will have you expanding your understanding of indigenous people and history and how it related to YOU.
If you're looking for a space to hear indigenous voices, this is it! If you're looking to understand how to be a better ally to indigenous folks, this offering will provide you with a foundation to do so.
This course is a great way to be introduced to Indigenous history, culture, language, colonialism, racism, and more! I am so grateful and am inspired to take the next session!
This learning is powerful and should be available as part of all teacher training programs and/or part of professional development. All administrators should also have the opportunity to take the course.
This course is a thoughtful, informative contribution to understanding and engaging with current and past realities of Indigenous people.
I learned so much about Indigenous culture and history from this course! Excellent historic and cultural information. It was so inspiring and enjoyable to hear personal stories. I feel better-prepared to engage in positive action and support for truth and reconciliation efforts.
This course has been a meaningful way of learning more about the history, culture, and perspectives of indigenous people in North America. While the content is approachable, there are many ways to interact with the information to learn more, and engage further with areas of interest.
This is a resource that everyone in the early learning field should explore. It contains a lot of information that is so important about our history and how we can move forward, working together on this journey. I have been sharing the info with colleagues and highly recommend it. Easy platform to follow, working at your own pace. Definitely lots of information for reflection.
The first season of the Four Seasons of Indigenous Learning was a great foundation about the history of indigenous people, the need for reconciliation, and ways to engage in reconciliation work in a respectful and empathetic fashion. I am eager to continue learning through season two, and to incorporate the lessons I've learned so far to progress reconciliation efforts through both my work and personal life.
This learning is worth your time. Everybody will learn something about the place they live and themselves.
You will not regret learning and contemplating the information. It is worth the time!
Season 3 is a great overview of different ways to engage with Indigenous learning practices and practitioners. Launa and Sherrelle give authentic and engaging information about different protocols, including elders, drums, and including the natural world authentically into your practice.
I really valued learning about the history of indigenous peoples, the treaties that really helped me understand how my own history and schooling was colored by colonialism. Talk about shedding a light on systemic racism.
This course really helped me reflect on how historical events continue to have an impact today and ways in which I can take action such as through land acknowledgements and of course teaching my own students about the history and ways to participate in reconciliation. The online speaker events were a wonderful element to help further educate myself by hearing from many Indigenous people who are doing impressive things within their community and beyond.
This is a great opportunity to learn the foundational knowledge in an accessible way. The self-paced style is also really useful for absorbing this content when you have the best capacity for learning.

If you're looking to start your journey of learning or furthering your Indigenous knowledge these are the courses for you! The virtual opportunities are wonderful for networking and building your resources as well as the online self-paced modules.
Learning through this course has supported my work in early childhood education, specifically by enriching my knowledge of the histories around me, connecting me to the place I am through thoughtful provocation, and my work to connect young children in early education settings to understanding our mutual connection as a part of the natural world.
This course allowed me to learn Indigenous history based in truth and authenticity and gave me a strong foundation of knowledge in order to become a supporter and ally in reconciliation efforts.
Season 3: Reciprocal Relationships from the Outdoor Learning Store was incredibly impactful, especially in its thoughtful protocols and powerful insights into stereotypes and bias. The more I learn, the more I realize how much I still need to learn—and how deeply I want to continue this journey.
This course inspired me to research my local history more and find organizations around me to continue to learn more about Indigenous Peoples in my own community.
The most impactful part of the course is that it is done over a period of time, because I do not believe in one-and-done sessions, and more often than not we do not take the time to reflect after a session or conference. However, in each of the seasons, I was reminded to listen and reflect each month, and I think that makes more difference than any other "training" I have been a part of.
Although many aspects of the learning are uncomfortable to consider, this course always returns to the context of reconciliation. I am more knowledgeable about the past and present AND I have ideas about how to move into the future.
This course was a wonderful meditation on how to be more respectful and aware as an ally of the roles of Indigenous communities across mother Earth. It was well structured with many methods of learning and engaging media. (I am excited to keep diving deeper with the resource links)
The information presented was thoughtfully curated and beautifully displayed, allowing me to easily absorb and soak in new learning. I especially appreciate all the link to external websites and resource listings so that I can both continue learning AND share what I'm learning with others.
This program offers great insight, has guided reflection, and a variety of different resources that you can access at your own pace. It is a wonderful resource and I feel like I have a greater understanding of both history, and how actual people feel about it.
If you are interested in deepening your knowledge and understanding of indigenous history and cultures in the United States and Canada then sign up for these dynamic and easily accessible modules. Each module highlights a certain aspect of learning, with videos and texts that are engaging and easy to follow.
I am so grateful for the generosity of everyone involved in providing this course. As a non-indigenous, early childhood outdoor/nature-immersive coach, I have always been interested in understanding more about our country's indigenous history as well as how to integrate indigenous ways of being into how young families and young children grow, connect with and learn from the earth. This course provided important historical and current understanding of the devastating impact colonization has had in North America, along with tangible suggestions for connection and reconciliation work we can all do in the places we live and work. I look forward to starting my second season of indigenous learning in a couple of months!
This training module was easy to access and stay on track with your learning journey. I liked how there were written pieces, photos, and also videos, providing a variety of learning styles. I would highly recommend this training to gain a better understanding of the history of Indigenous peoples, the impact of colonization, and what you can do to support Indigenous peoples where you live. Excellent resource!
The course content is concise, approachable, and actionable for folks at any stage of learning about and engaging with Indigenous peoples and cultures.
This was one of the best courses I have taken about Indigenous Learnings and I would highly recommend to anyone. I will let my colleagues know and encourage them to sign up.
This is a beautiful and easy first step towards expanding your Indigenous knowledge and understanding Indigenous perspective.
I've learned so much from Season 3 because it was presented in a holistic way that resonated with me. Simple yet powerful insights and ideas which we can apply the next day. The presenters were wonderful guides in this journey!
The course instilled in me a whole new appreciation for what I was missing when I was ignorant about Indigenous ways of learning, teaching, and exploring. I brought these new perspectives to my practice as a nature therapy guide, both in my client work and in the way I set up the systems for my business.
These modules provide a broad yet detailed overview of the past, present, and future of Indigenous nations and the ways in which everyone can meaningfully engage in the work of reconciliation. Everyone benefits from learning more about the original stewards of the land we inhabit, and engaging in this work will contribute to a better society for all.
This is meaningful learning, and very important if you are seeing truth and reconciliation. It is important to keep in mind that it can be emotionally taxing and you have to be in the right mindset and devote time and energy to it.
Very highly recommend! As someone who very much enjoys learning history this learning experience uncovered so many disgusting hidden truths of what Native people have undergone through colonization that we don't learn in school. I also very much have appreciated learning was of how to reconcile these wrongs.
This course provided incredibly helpful information spanning a wide range of topics related to history and practicing respect and reconciliation. It offered a wealth of resources and a strong foundation to continue learning from, and I would highly recommend it!
This course is a great primer on the history many of us never learned. I am grateful for the opportunity to listen, learn and engage with indigenous leaders to connect to the process of reconciliation in my own community.
I highly recommend this learning program! The online learning modules are designed with multiple points of entry and the live sessions add such depth and value, pushing thinking in new directions and opening your mind to new perspectives.
This course was invaluable in my understanding of how to begin honoring indigenous communities and in deepening my own, as well as that of my nonprofit, understanding of the path to reconciliation.
This course is a great introduction to the impact of colonization on indigenous people in Canada and the US, along with information on reconciliation. It contains many valuable resources for continued learning and ideas for taking action.
I appreciate that this is foundational knowledge that everyone should have. Everyone. This is the first step in unlearning the narrow viewpoints and narratives our colonial systems have taught us. In this way, we can learn to be better relatives and have honorable relationships with the people and land.
This is a great opportunity to reflect on yourself in your place on Turtle Island. This course holds important history and guides participants in helpful practical next steps.
This course offers a beautiful introduction to better understanding of some perspectives, history and contemporary concerns of Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island.
I think this program was put together in a very thoughtful way. It has a balance between learning histories and action to take. Its not just a history lesson it is forward momentum in restoring justice to people who colonization tried to erase.
This learning gave me the tools and language to understand a part of the history of Indigenous groups of the Americas. It taught me how to better support and participate in the recognition and reconciliation; something I now know is a responsibility for all of us.
This is a practical starting point to learn about Indigenous history, communities, and peoples in the context of colonialism.
I found it wonderfully revealing, which surprised me, given all that I have done to continue learning! I would say that this learning is well worth your time and is incredibly powerful in learning how to be a better ally/advocate and more accurate in teaching about Indigenous people. I am hoping to bring my learning not only back to my classroom, but also to my district department and farther!
I appreciated gaining a better understanding of the history of turtle island as well has understanding the struggles indigenous people face today.
I feel like this is a valuable tool for all educators and people who are truly interested in bringing balance to turtle island.
As a non-indigenous person, this course was so informative and eye-opening. I learned so much about the history and culture of indigenous peoples in the US and Canada. I feel really grateful for the generosity of so many incredible indigenous people sharing their own perspectives in the live presentations. I'm looking forward to participating in Season 2!
This lesson creates a good foundation and a great starting point to learn about Indigenous history and traditions. I know feel like I have better tools to start making my workplace and communities more inclusive and educated about the people that have stewarded these lands for generations.
I feel like these lessons are a good resource for anyone interested in tje true history of turtle island as well as ways to correct injustices that have happened in the past and continue to happen
I am so grateful that I participated in this program and I have signed up for the next session. The speakers were some of the most fascinating teachers and story tellers. They talked us through some very heavy topics with such beauty and grace I looked forward to each session and the sense of community that we experienced despite the online format. This program has helped me heal some of my non indigenous sadness around the impacts made by my ancestors; especially the stolen land and genocide.
This course builds a strong foundation for understanding the history of North American colonialism and its current impact on Native nations and provides tools and resources for growing as an ally and partner in reconciliation and centering the stories and movements of Native peoples.
It is important to learn about these histories and present issues so that we can heal and support each other - it is the way forward. This course gave me deeper perspective and has helped me become more mindful.
Do it! It is so worth your time. I love that this class is made to learn at your own pace and everything that was taught was clearly thoroughly researched and organized to make sense. The sheer amount of resources that are given are extensive and very informative. The virtual gatherings are by far the best part.
I have appreciated the thoughtfulness and intention of this course as it covers history, the present, ways to take action and engage toward reconciliation, and wisdom from inspiring leaders. I greatly recommend this course!
I sincerely appreciated continuing my journey in Indigenous learning. With each season, I have a deeper understanding of colonial history, greater knowledge of Indigenous culture and values, and stronger understanding and growth in my own path towards truth and reconciliation.
These sessions are invaluable in our centre's learning journey. As the ED, I no longer work directly with students, but have found the 4 Seasons sessions to be the most valuable PD I've taken related to Truth and Reconciliation, and I highly recommend it for all staff and volunteers. I'm looking forward to continuing my journey this Fall with Season 4!
This program really opened my eyes to the work being done towards reconciliation and made me aware that people are not only asking for recognition and respect but true restitution through education of all Canadians and the world. I was particularly struck by the Call to Action #64 showing how Indigenous people not only want to make others aware of their history and culture and reclaim their rights but spread the education broadly to include all peoples of varying religious and spiritual beliefs. It is inclusive and far-reaching - an excellent model of real change-making for the world.
This opportunity of learning brings about an awareness that is straightforward and necessary to help Indigenous populations become visible amongst mainstream society. There are helpful suggestions and resources that enlighten and challenge learners to go beyond learning. Take your learning into society and make a difference.
