Anishinaabe Bird Names Nature Guide

This pamphlet includes 15 carefully chosen bird species and their Anishinaabe names, pronunciation, and how their names relate to different aspects of Anishinaabe ecological knowledge.

This knowledge comes from Joseph Pitawanakwat’s teaching journeys into hundreds of communities across North America, alongside the work of the Creators Garden – Birds team, a trio dedicated to the regathering and sharing of bird names and significant Indigenous bird knowledge.

This guide is laminated for weather resistance. It was produced with the support of Birds Canada, Wiikwemkoong First Nation, and Environment and Climate Change Canada.
