Seeing Ourselves in Nature: Diversity in Outdoor Learning

In this four-part workshop series, editor of “Seeing Ourselves in Nature” Jessica Fong asks how educators in North America can create space for predominantly Black and Brown children and families to reconnect to nature.

- Class #2 (May 13): Fostering Community and Cultural Connection Through Nature
- Class #3 (May 20): Nature Anywhere and Everywhere
- Class #4 (May 27): Inquiry Through Nature

This course includes:
- 4 x 60 Minute Sessions at 4pm Pacific / 7pm Eastern time on May 6, 13, 20, 27
- These will all be recorded, with the recordings made available to registrants the day after the live session for those who can’t attend live.
- All registrants will receive a Certificate of Completion
Facilitator:
Jessica Fong is a Latina educator and child of Guatemalan immigrants, Jessica began teaching in Guatemala in 2007 and has since become a national advocate for dual language and nature-based early childhood education. She holds two master’s degrees and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Educational Sustainability. Her work centres on equity, cultural identity, and community stewardship, with a focus on ensuring BIPOC children and families feel safe, seen, and celebrated in outdoor learning spaces. She is the author of Seeing Ourselves in Nature: Stories from Educators and Children of Indigenous, Black and other people of the Global Majority.
