- Dr. Simon Beames is Professor of Friluftsliv at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences in Oslo, Norway. He is originally from Montreal, Canada, and has been teaching outdoors for over 30 years, predominantly in Southeast Asia, North America, and Europe.
- Dr. Heidi Smith is a lecturer of outdoor and environmental education at the University of Edinburgh. Her research interests focus on strong links between theory and practice and include leadership, praxis, transculturality, place-based education, intersectionality, student and educator experiences.
- Professor Peter Higgins is Chair of Outdoor Environmental and Sustainability Education at the University of Edinburgh. From 2013 to 2024 he was Director of Scotland’s United Nations University centre of expertise in Education for Sustainable Development (‘Learning for Sustainability Scotland’).
- Robbie Nicol is a Professor of Place-Based Education at the University of Edinburgh where he is a teacher, researcher and residential education campaigner. His life motivation comes from the realisation that human activities are fundamentally altering the planet’s ability to sustain all species including the human race. He believe that the outdoors provide places where individuals can rediscover their direct dependence on the planet through embodied experiences.
Join these co-authors as they shares from the practical and engaging chapters of their new book, containing aims, case studies, and guidelines for practice, providing you with the tools to integrate outdoor learning into your daily timetable. Outdoor Learning Across the Curriculum outlines the theory and practice to enable preservice and experienced educators from K – 12 to systematically incorporate meaningful outdoor learning opportunities into their daily teaching activities, in a range of environments and with diverse groups of students.
